In 1887 Kansas women won the right to vote and their voices were heard in the April 4, 1887 election. What started as a prank by a group of businessmen who felt politics were their domain, became a celebrated right of passing for women voters in Argonia. Susanna Madora Salter of Argonia was the first woman in the UNITED STATES to be elected as mayor. Based on the criteria presented, she is the IDEAL candidate for the $10 bill!
