News Release – Sumner County becomes a Rural Opportunity Zone (ROZ)

Effective July 1, 2014 Sumner County will become a Rural Opportunity Zone (ROZ).  The Sumner County Economic Development Commission worked this year with our local State Legislators to gain approval from the Legislature for Sumner County to become a ROZ County.

Gov. Sam Brownback established the Rural Opportunity Zone program in 2011 to help draw new residents and businesses to counties where populations had dropped in the previous decade.

SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans Available to Kansas Small Businesses

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Small, nonfarm businesses in 12 Kansas counties and neighboring counties in Oklahoma are now eligible to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans from the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA).  “These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by the drought that began on April 22, 2014, in the following primary Kansas counties,” announced Tanya N. Garfield, Director of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West.

Weatherization Assistance Program

Applications for the Weatherization Assistance Program available at the Sumner County Economic Development Office:

The South Central Kansas Economic Development District, Inc. (SCKEDD) sponsors a Weatherization program for lower-income residents in 13 counties in the South Central Kansas Region which includes Sumner County.
